Scrapbooking Tuesday - Christmas Cards...

Hello Friends

I thought I would try and venture back into my Scrapbooking Tuesdays again.  Not sure it will be every week but let's see how we go.  Now this week is a bit of a tutorial and is heavy in pictures, so if you want to go an grab a cuppa while I take you through then feel free.  Otherwise if you want to just scan down to the end photograph then that is fine too.  Just let me know you have been and what you think please as I Luurrve comments.

I was on Julia's blog yesterday and she was asking what us crafters do with cards that they have been sent.  I often have the same issues as Julia as it gets to a stage when space is at a premium and I do not particularly want to have people in my house clearing stuff away in a few years!  So as for Christmas cards, I do love those that have been handmade and they get pride of place in our bay window.  Too nice to throw away and I don't want to put them in a box never to see the light of day for a few years, so I decided that before they go in such a box I would create a layout to put them into this year's scrapbook.  So I started with two sheets of Bo Bunny paper....

I cut the bottom 3" off and flipped them over.  These are the pockets.
I then mounted the top sections onto another sheet of cardstock to give substance to the layout and in order to attach the pockets (fresh air is not easy to adhere!).

I cut a four pieces of cardstock 3" x 9".  Score at 6", 6.5", 7", 7.5", and 8".  Score with concertina effect and adhere to the reverse of the pockets with the concertina to the outer side.  I used red tape to ensure it does not come apart.  Tip, cut small pieces of red tape and adhere to the bottom edges of the concertina to give a fan effect.  Using more red line adhere the bottom edge of the pocket to the back card and then adhere the concertina also. It will hopefully look something like this...

Then you can decorate away...

And here is the finished layout complete with cards...

Thanks for sticking with me to the end.  I do hope it was worth it.  Look at the sunshine we had on Sunday when I finished it!!

Sharing it with my Buddies in the Playground as there are some Snippets in there of the chipboard and the cardstock for letters.  All letters were cut on my Cricut.

Wow, fabulous Sam! Gonna try to do something similar as I'm the same as you - love to keep all those gorgeous handmade cards and struggle how to store them properly.

Email on the way, hugs, Di xx

That is a wonderful way to preserve special cards, Sam! I love the papers you've used for your gorgeous "pockets" - really beautiful.

And speaking as someone who is in the process of tackling 40 or more years' worth of stuff - some mine, but mainly my mother's (and she still finds it hard to let go of it) I applaud your efforts to keep it under control as you go...

What a great idea! I can honestly say though, that I didn't get a single hand made card this year, so I have no qualms about throwing the ones we did receive away.... LOL...

Super cool scrapbook pages - beautiful papers and design and what a nice way to preserve your special cards - your pocket page design could work great with lots of special events cards - new baby, wedding, graduation, etc. Love it!

Hugs,
Linda

This is a great idea...and you gave such a good walk us through it tutorial!
Love that DP you used too!
I used to save all my handmade ones in a special deep Xmas tin...but when we were house searching to downsize last year i decided to move them into my stash and reuse them...I tore elements off and remade them or cut the fronts of cards and made them into new, bigger cards bu adding more elements etc. i think I showed one on my blog but mentioned it was a reworked card!
