WOYWW 112 - Poor Abby

I am afraid that I have to start my WOYWW this week with an apology and some sad news.

Last Wednesday whilst I was hopping around the desks, one of our chooks, Abby was taken and no doubt murdered!  Despite the valiant efforts of Hubby chasing Mr Fox in the hope that Abby was dropped, alas it was to no avail.  Abby is no longer with us.  After all the commotion and trying to calm five very stressed chooks I was not really up to carrying on with my desk hopping.  I am in no doubt that if Hubby and I had not been on the scene so quickly we would have lost more than Abby.  So sorry to all you ladies who I missed visiting last week.

Abby is to the left of the above photo.  She was named after the character in NCIS because she had distinctive black feathers going down her back.  (Abby in NCIS is tattooed!)  Perhaps in hindsight I should have called her Kate.  Anyone who watches NCIS will know what I mean!  After being shaken up for a few days the remaining chooks are now back to their normal selves.

In complete contrast however, my desk for this week is, I am afraid, all set up for a Christmas project!  I actually started this project last year but time ran out before I could complete it.   The numbers and the “CHRISTMAS” were all printed and cut out using my Silhouette.  However, I have discovered that I have lost one number – 20!!  I shall have to “fiddle” this!!

They will all be mounted onto the canvas after I have stamped flourishes on to the canvas, and I will be adding “schparkly bits n pieces” into the gaps which you can see.  Hopefully I will be completing this on Sunday when my friend is joining me for a Christmas crafting session, on possibly the warmest weekend of the year so far!!  Thank goodness I have air conditioning in this room!!

If you want to know why I am showing you pictures of my desk it is part of the weekly phenomenomanomanon called WOYWW.  Click HERE to see lots of other like minded (aka “Daft”) crafters who all link up to the wonderful Julia Dunnit’s desk to share how their desks are looking this week.

Incidentally, if you would like to see the book finished that was on my desk last week, click HERE to see it.  The draw is this Saturday so hopefully the recipient will like it!!

Oh NOOOO . . . poor little Abby. Nasty Mr Fox.

I also keep chickens and one of them is a Light Sussex like your girls. Take's em ages to recover doesn't it?

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE NCIS . . . and I'm a cardmaker, so I guess we have a lot in common!

Sending hugs and commiserations for your loss.

Poor Abby - but no doubt one of the drawbacks of keeping chicks! Love your Christmas project - hope you finish it this year - it will be amazing!!

It's really sad when an animal of yourself died, whatever it is. Hope the other chickens are not too confused (Hope I say it right).
But the good thing is your Xmas project. Love the colours and all these numbers. Hope you can finish it this year.
Bye, Franka

PS I'm on holiday at a place between Monmouth and Ross on Wye next week - any craft places you can recommend for me to visit? I know the area reasonably well but not the shopping possibilities :D xx

aw poor Abby, they have chickens at work too, I shall miss them! and dogs and cats which I've known for years!! The chickens love having 'puddles' to play in and I take them apples and other things!
Love your work desk, and your numbers! Perhaps you'll find number 20 inside a book like I found my mouse!! I was lucky to win some stamped out images but I do love it so, I must get the stamp, only one image left!! Happy WOYWW!!

Hi again!! Thank you sooo much for the shopping info, local knowledge is the best!! I'm definitely going to try those out and, as Julia D is coming over for a few days as well, will no doubt have to drag her along too. Hereford and Doughty sounds like a shop from Harry Potter - can't wait to see it LOL!! xxxx Thank you again xx

I've lost three flocks to foxes and goshawks and one to a neighbours dog. My poor girls are now confined to barracks unless supervised!
The numbers look fab, I'm looking forward to what you are up to!

So sorry for your loss, Sam, as someone who has kept hens, gorgeous fluffy Buffs,I can only sympathise. We had a duck killed, my wee pet Khaki Campbell, not by a fox, but by a dog and I was inconsolable. I meant to pass this link onto you last week - but I was away - so here it is now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu4ugbq7E44 - it is of my son flying his microlight up north - thought you might like to see it. Hope your week is a better one than last. Elizabeth x #59

Love your Christmas project, I have just received some of the new LOTV Christmas stamps so will be starting my cards very soon :) xx

Your xmas project looks great and I can't wait to see it with all the sparkly bits!
I haven't been doing WOYWW much lately since my work schedule changed and I miss it! Hopefully once I settle into this new schedule I will get back into WOYWW.

Oh poor Abby. It must be a nightmare having to keep an eye out for foxes when you have chickens. Well done for saving the rest.
You look engrossed in that Christmas project. I shall look forward to seeing the finished piece.
A jelly baby is coming your way!!
Happy WOYWW

So sorry to hear about Abby... what a shame. We have a fox visiting us (mid city) and it is so cheeky and won't move when we chase it.

Poor Abby!! (And yes, in hindsight..Kate! LOL! (So we're both NCIS Freaks too!) It's the coyotes that get everyone's chickens here, scary when they are pack hunting!
Love your Christmas project! Reminds me I so need to get started; I've been commissioned for Christmas cards already--Yikes!!
