Friday Smiles...

Hello All

As many of you may by now be aware, I recently lost my Mum and yesterday was her funeral.  Whilst we, as a family, are mourning her loss, we have all been taking the time to look at old photographs and talk about Mum, with a lot of funny stories being shared once again.

One such episode was in 2008 on the occasion of my Graduation.  I shared a photo of Mum HERE, which was of Mum donning my mortar board.  Now I should let you know that neither Mum or I like having our photos taken.  But after the Graduation itself my Dad and Hubby walked to the car park to pick their cars up whilst Mum and I sat on a wall and waited for them.   Then Mum asked:-

"What is a selfie?"

"I will show you."

"Ahhhhhh!"

Want to see it?    Course you do...

I discovered my Dad had not seen this photo until I shared my Graduation Album with him.  It is one of his favourite photos now.  Not bad for a photo of two people who hate having their picture taken!!!

This is my Friday Smile and I am sharing this with Annie.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hugs

Hettie

What a beautiful photo of two lovely people Sam. I guessed what had happened ....such sad news for your family. Even when it's something we know has to happen at some point it's always a shock. Sending you lots of love and hugs.

I've been out of the loop for so long, I had NO idea about your mother. My sincere sympathies for your loss, although I realize those words sound so hollow. The selfie is wonderful, though, and I thought it was a stunning picture of the two of you. I am glad you were able to find a bit of a smile today, because it looks like she was a truly beautiful lady.

I am so sorry to hear about your mum, but what a lovely photo of you together. That will be a treasured possession I am sure. I lost my mum twenty years ago, but her smiling photo still sits on my mantle shelf. She never really went away. I hear her commenting on everything I do. I am glad you have some happy memories to remember her by. Hugs. Kate x

Oh sweetie, so very sorry for your loss. This selfie is priceless to you now and I appreciate you sharing it with us. My Grandmother passed several years ago and the only thing that helps me get through it is to do my best day to day to live a life that she would be proud of, and honor her legacy by trying to be as good of a person as she was.

Hi Sam,
I am a bit late with my comment, but as they say better late than never.
Wonderful photo of your mother and you.
A great Friday smiles.
Yes you still reminisce about them many years later as me and my sisters do when we are together.
So enjoy all the reminiscing in the next years to come, as this is a wonderful way to remember them.
Love and biggest hugs Jenny L.

I'm so glad I scrolled down and saw this, Sam! I thought the photo of your mom with your mortar board was adorable, but this one is even more so and all the better because you are in it! We would never know either of you hated to have your photos taken and, of course, now it is such a treasure! Hugs, Darnell

That's a really lovely photo - as a fellow photo-phobe, I sympathise and therefore can really celebrate with you that you have this lovely image of the two of you together. She must have been so proud of you graduating - and how lovely that you've been able to give your father this extra glimpse of her that he hadn't seen. Yes, I'm smiling... through tears.
