Happy Mothering Sunday...

Hello Friends

May I wish all Mothers a Happy Mothering Sunday, whether you be mother to two legged people or four legged people!

I want to share my Mothering Sunday cards which I have made for both my Mum and Hubby's Mum...

As you can see I have put my new found Paint Fusion techniques to use here.  They are ATC size and I have layered them onto hand made cards (i.e. cut from a large sheet of card to fit envelopes, instead of using blanks).  The white cardstock is recycled Dinner Dance invitations and the card base which I have painted the lavenders on are recycled chit pad backs so a truly hand made card.

I went to see my Mum and Dad yesterday to take Mum's card and flowers and they could not believe I had painted the Lavender.  Dad was really impressed with the background too and thought it was some special card I had bought.  I really like the fact that they all come out differently every time!

I also made a couple of ATCs to send to two dear Blogging Friends and they have told me they liked them too.

I am going to take these over to the Playground as they are made from Snippets.  Why not make use of your Snippets and join in with the fun and frolics of the virtual Playground.   The peeps are very nice and we all play together nicely - well most of us anyway!!  There is even a virtual pond with ducks on!!

I hope you have had a lovely weekend.  Just a shame it goes so quickly!

Thank You from Dobby

Hello Friends

Hope you are all having a great weekend.  I am scrapping with my Buddy Mandy today.  We promised each other one day per month for scrapping, however, this is the first time this year due to snow and illness.

I thought I would share a card that Dobby asked me to make for him to send to the lovely peeps who he goes to stay with for his holidays when we go away.

I had to put the stamp on the envelope, write the card and pop it in the post box as he could not reach!

I used my SU stamps (bargain on eBay), a Smile stamp from my friend Karen, Sizzix and Tim Holtz dies, ribbon left over from my Christmas Album and Snippets.  Lots of Snippets!

I am going to slip this over the top of the fence before Miss shuts the gates to the Playground in the morning.

Enjoy whatever you are doing this weekend and wrap up warm!!

Hugs
xx

Friday Funny

A store that sells new husbands has opened in Manchester, just off Deansgate where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.'

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework...

'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!'

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

PLEASE NOTE:

To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street with the same rules.

The first floor has wives that love sex.

The second floor has wives that love sex and have money and like beer.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

WOYWW 196 - Bet you never thought you would see painting!

Hello Friends

Well Wednesday is here again.  I am sure they come round quicker than Fridays!!  It is WOYWW day today.  In case you don't know what that means, it is What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday which is hosted by the lovely but slightly mad Julia!!

So without further ado, here is my desk as I left it last night!

Yep! I am actually p a i n t i n g!!  I never thought I would be showing you a desk with paints and brushes on there other than covering boxes.  Going from the left you can see the Sheena Douglass stamps I am trying out for the first time.  The red pot has my pva in, which I have been using to make crackle backgrounds.  Some various tester pots with backgrounds drying.  The blue pot is my dirty water pot.  It is an old stilton cheese pot which I meant to put the lid on so you would not see the yukky water, but I forgot.  Some various paints and my test piece using Sheena's techniques.

For those who did not see my post on Monday, here is my first ever painting that I am not ashamed to show you guys!  I love this Paint Fusion technique of Sheena's!!
When my retired boss saw my piece above, he wanted it to give to his granddaughter - Daisy.  Knowing some of the works of art he has in his home, I felt pretty chuffed.  So I said I would make one just for Daisy.  Here it is in progress....
I made another similar card picture and painted a small canvas to match.  I plan to mount the smaller picture on to mount board and paint leaves on to the canvas (scary!).  I have ordered the green paints that Sheena uses as I am short of acrylics in greens.  The colours are a little bluey here as I took the photo with a flash!

Right.  That is it from me today.  Thanks for calling by.  I shall be round later to to see you.

Scrapbook Tuesday - Guernsey Album

Hello Friends

I hope you are all lucky enough to be enjoying this dry weather that we have been having lately.  Just a shame the weekends aren't very long to enjoy it.

REgulars will know that on a Tuesday I tend to share a recent layout here, however, I haven't done one this week.  However, I have been working on my album that I started last year and have not shared with you, so I will now.  It has been inspired by the albums that Laura Dennison creates but to my own specifications and design. Front cover.....

Inside front cover.... The covers were actually made from some law books which were about to be disposed of!!  Criminal!!  The slight bobbling on the front cover is where the text is embossed into the cover, but this will be covered with embellishments when I add them on.  I don't tend to put the embellishments on the cover until I have finished the book.

Some pics of a wonderful small Shell Church and Simon at the wall of Castle Cornet.  Yes that is me peaking out of the Church on the far right.....a larger version of me!!

Photos of the bay.  You can tell I have had this on the go for a while as I had just received my Sailing set of SU stamps!!
This was my first ever flight!!  1993!!
Some of you may recognise the papers as Laura Ashley which were out some years ago!!  I have also used elements from Cosmo Cricket set and bucket loads of Snippets.
And another silly one of yours truly, along with some butterflies which someone kindly sent to me!  As you may notice, I have used a mixture of photos and postcards bought from the trip.
Quite a bit more work to do but it is coming along slowly.  I have not told you but the pages are made from brown paper bags which used to hold the Partners' lunches when they were being delivered here!!  More recycling or upcycling!!

Right, I think the Playground Chicken Coop needs cleaning out and as it is such a lovely sunny afternoon, I shall volunteer to do the job.  Anyone care to join me?

Hugs

I Been Painting! Yes Painting!!

Hello Friends

It has long been a family joke that despite my having an O'Level in Art and Design, I cannot produce prettiness with a paintbrush (discounting walls etc).  So a week or so ago whilst watching a well known shopping channel that sells crafty stuff, Sheena Douglass was on showing peeps her Paint Profusion techniques.  My eyes were out like stalks as I watched Sheena take her stamps and colour the images in using paint techniques.   She made it look relatively easy and I liked her approach to using what you have to try out the techniques.

Well my wonderful Hubby said "why not order yourself a set?"  "You have been a good girl lately!"  Well, who was I to refuse? (I have been on a crafty spending embargo as I am off to BSSBS next month - Yippee!)

So yesterday I set aside some time to sit at my cleared computer desk with some chipboard (backs of chit pads that we use in work - so technically Snippets!).  I took some emulsion and tried out the four backgrounds as Sheena suggests...

Then again using different paints...
I actually got a bit carried away and made some 15 backgrounds!  Loving the crackle one.

Then I picked out the Daisy stamp set and set to work on a little piece....
I know it isn't perfick and I will need to get some more paints (especially greens) but I am chuffin' chuffed with it!!

Now what can I paint next?  Off to the Playground to share my pretty Daisies until we get the real ones!!

Friday Funny - One for the men!

Women often receive warnings about protecting themselves at the supermarket and in dark car parks, etc.

This is the first warning I have seen for men.  I wanted to pass it on in case you haven't heard about it.

Men who may be regular customers at Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco, or even B&Q watch out!.  This one caught me totally by surprise.  Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping.  Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic.  Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:
Two nice looking college girls will come over to your car as you are packing your purchases.  They both start wiping your windscreen with a wet rag, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. (It's impossible not to look).  When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' but instead ask for a ride to McDonalds.

You agree and they climb into the vehicle.  On the way, they start undressing.  Then one of them starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I have had my wallet stolen July 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, again on the 17th, 20th, 24th and the 25th.  Also August 1st, 4th, 8th, twice on the 26th & 27th, and very likely again this coming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of us older men.  Warn your friends to be vigilant.

Tesco have wallets on sale for £1.99 each.  I found even cheaper ones for £0.99 at the Pound Shop and bought all their stock.

Also, you never get to eat at McDonalds.  I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth from Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's.

So please, send this on to all the older men that you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this scam (the best times are just before lunch and around 4.30 in the afternoon).
